North Florida women’s soccer inks transfer from University of Houston

JACKSONVILLE – North Florida head women’s soccer coach Eric Faulconer announced the addition of transfer defender Brielle Maloney for the 2021 fall roster.

Maloney joins the Ospreys in August following two collegiate seasons at the University of Houston in the American Athletic Conference.

A 5-9 native of Saint Johns, Fla., Maloney was a standout prep performer at Bartram Trail High School playing under former Osprey Jen Rodriguez (Hobson). She was an all-state selection, as well as a Florida Times-Union’s All-First Coast first team member in 2019 for the Bears.

Maloney played her club soccer for Florida Elite under coach Mike Pickett, who said: “Bri is an extremely technical and tactically savvy player. She has all the tools you look for in a back and is a really sneaky good soccer player.”

Faulconer Thoughts: “Brielle is player that our staff identified right about the time I was named the head coach at UNF, but she was already headed to Houston. We continue to make it a strong priority to recruit the local area for both incoming freshmen and possible transfers. We are excited about Brielle coming home to join our program. She fits the mold of the type of player we are looking for. She possesses excellent technical and tactical ability, as well as a willingness to get forward and attack out of the back. Brielle can also play anywhere along the backline. She will fit right in with our positive team culture and we are glad she is now officially an Osprey.”
