South Carolina signs defender Remi Swartz on transfer from Duke

COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina women’s soccer coach Shelley Smith has announced the addition of defender Remi Swartz. The senior joins the Gamecocks after playing three and a half seasons at Duke.

“I chose South Carolina because it has the perfect combination of academics and athletics for my  graduate degree and final year of soccer eligibility,” Swartz said. “The International Business Program as well as the soccer program are highly renowned and I am confident it will challenge me to grow while providing me with an abundance of learning opportunities.”

The Sanford, N.C. native was a part of the Blue Devils 2017 NCAA College Cup run, the same College Cup that the Gamecocks were a part of on the opposite side of the bracket. She’s played in 42 matches in her collegiate career and has started in eight while scoring once and adding one assist.

Swartz was named to the ACC Honor Roll in 2018 and aided Duke to eight shutouts in 2019 with three of those against ACC opponents. Swartz entered college as the No. 64 ranked prospect by TopDrawerSoccer in the South Atlanta region while playing in development events such as the USYSA National Training Camp, ODP Region III Player pool while playing with the North Carolina ODP State Team from 2010-15. She was the TISAC Conference Player of the Year as a senior in high school and finished her career with a school-record 43 assists for Cary Academy. She tallied 14 goals in her senior campaign where she ended her high school career as a four-time All-State, All-Region and All-Conference selection.

Swartz played with the club CASL in the ECNL league where she was a captain in 2016 and 2017 for the U18 team. Swartz helped the program qualify for the Champions League four times during her youth career with the club.

The next step for the Gamecocks is the NCAA Tournament Selection Show, which is scheduled for April 19 at a time to be announced by the NCAA.
