(Via University of North Carolina) – The North Carolina Tar Heels captured their second consecutive U.S. Soccer Spring College Program championship on Saturday afternoon after beating Virginia Tech 4-2 at Wake Forest University. The Tar Heels are 8-0-1 in two years of the U.S. Soccer Spring College Program and the only program to go undefeated over the last two years.

It was a back and forth match in the first half as both teams traded goals to make it 2-2 at the halftime. An own goal by the Hokies off a Jack Skahan cross put the Heels up 1-0 before Virginia Tech answered on a corner kick to make it 1-1. Mauricio Pineda put the Heels back on top after collecting a loose ball in the box and chipping the goalkeeper but the Hokies clawed back and tied it 2-2 before halftime.

Jelani Pieters scored the game-winning goal after slipping behind the defense with a ball from Raul Aguilera to give the Heels a 3-2 lead before Jeremy Kelly put the finishing touches on the game by scoring on a quick counter from a Virginia Tech corner kick to make it 4-2.
