New Zealand international joins Georgetown women’s soccer

WASHINGTON (Via Georgetown University) – Georgetown University Head Women’s Soccer Coach Dave Nolan announced the addition of incoming freshman Anna Leat for the 2019 season on Friday.

Leat, a native of Auckland, New Zealand, comes from the New Zealand National Team and will join the No. 4-ranked Hoyas on the Hilltop in the fall.

Leat has competed on the New Zealand National Team for U17s, U20s and full women’s teams. She played in three FIFA World Cups, including the 2016 U17s in Jordan, 2018 U20s in France and the 2018 U17s in Uruguay. Leat is the youngest player to ever start for the New Zealand full women’s team and has three caps for the team. The goalie earned a bronze medal in the FIFA Women’s U17 World Cup in 2018 and was named the FIFA Player of the Match for the World Cup U17 quarterfinal against Japan that same year.

What stands out is her poise and leadership from between the posts. She is a complete goalkeeper and will challenge straight away to help replace Arielle Schechtman.”
