U.S. U-23 Women’s National Team picks up 5-0 win over Dominican Republic senior team
FAYETTEVILLE, GA – The U.S. Under-23 Women’s National Team defeated the full Women’s National Team of the Dominican Republic, 5-0, in the first of two matches between the teams at the Arthur M. Blank U.S. Soccer National Training Center.
The U.S. U-23 WNT face the Dominican Republic again on Oct. 13 at Noon ET on Field 3 at the U.S. Soccer National Training Center.
The U.S. team, which is made up entirely of National Women’s Soccer League players, dominated the game, outshooting the DR, 20-2, while scoring two goals in the first half and three in the second.
Seattle Reign FC forward Mia Fishel bagged the first two to complete her brace, opening the scoring in the 13th minute and added her second in first-half stoppage time to make it 2-0. Angel City FC forward Ally Sentnor, who captained the team, tallied in the 51st and San Diego Wave FC midfielder Gia Corley made it 4-0 in the 56th minute. Bay FC Forward Karlie Lema capped the scoring in the 83rd minute.
USWNT head coach Emma Hayes has repeatedly emphasized that at times players who are age-eligible for the U-23s will move between that team and the senior USWNT, and this roster reflects that philosophy. Seven of the players who played in this match have caps with the full U.S. Women’s National Team and nine have trained with Hayes’ squad. Of the goal scorers, Sentnor has 23 caps and seven goals for the USWNT and Fishel has three caps and one goal for the senior side.
For Sentnor, the goal was her third at the U-23 international level while Fishel, Corley and Lema all scored their first goals for the U.S. U-23s. Sentnor has scored at almost every level of the USA’s Women’s and Girls’ National Teams, tallying for the U-15s, U-16s, U-17s, U-18s, U-20s, U-23s and the full National Team.
On occasion, a U.S. U-23 WNT roster may feature several “overage” players, all born within a certain number of years before the age-eligible players, which this year are players born on or after Jan. 1, 2003, and this is the case for this roster. The USA’s overage players in this camp are Angel City FC goalkeeper Angelina Anderson (born in 2001), Corley (2002), Utah Royals FC forward Jameese Joseph (2002) and Fishel (2001).
This match marked the first international action for Savy King – who played in the 2022 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup and the 2024 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup – since she suffered a cardiac event on May 9, 2025, that led to surgery to address a heart abnormality. She returned to the field for Angel City FC at the beginning of this NWSL season and played in four matches before suffering a foot injury that kept her off the field for four months. She has played nine NWSL matches since her return from that injury.
