ROSTER: USWNT squad set ahead of home friendlies against Spain

ATLANTA – U.S. Women’s National Team head coach Emma Hayes has named a 26-player training camp roster for the two matches against the reigning Women’s World Cup champions Spain.

In what will be two highly anticipated matches between the two top-ranked teams in the world, the USA will host Spain on Oct. 10 at Audi Field in Washington, D.C. (2:30 p.m. ET on TBS and HBO Max in English and on Telemundo, Universo and Peacock in Spanish) in a match presented by Purina and on Oct. 13 at Subaru Park in Chester, Pa. (7 p.m. ET on TNT and HBO Max in English and on Universo and Peacock in Spanish) in a match presented by AT&T. Both matches will also be available on the radio on Westwood One Sports with the Oct. 13 game also available in Spanish on Fútbol de Primera. Spain has lost just two games in regulation time since the end of the 2024 Olympics – a span of 27 matches – with both of those coming to England at Wembley Stadium in London.

The matches against Spain will mark the USA’s first games in just over four months after a long break for club action following the June matches in Brazil. Spain’s most recent matches were World Cup qualifiers, a 4-0 win over England and a 6-1 win over Iceland, which booked La Roja a spot in the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

The USWNT will begin training on Oct. 6 at the Arthur M. Blank U.S. Soccer National Training Center in Fayetteville, Ga., marking the first visit for the U.S. Women to U.S. Soccer’s new home, before traveling to Washington, D.C., on Friday afternoon ahead of the Oct. 10 clash with Spain. The USA’s MD-1 training session prior to the Oct. 13 match will be at Subaru Park in Chester, Pa.

“While we are very much looking forward to playing the World Cup champions, I keep coming back to the journey that we are all on together,” said Hayes. “This camp will be about reestablishing connections after a long break, looking at a few players who haven’t been with us this cycle, and putting on the best performances we can in front of packed stadiums. Of course, our dual focus will also be on our final preparations for the World Cup qualifying tournament.”

The roster features the return of two 2024 Olympic champions who missed the USA’s trip to Brazil last June in defender Naomi Girma and midfielder Sam Coffey, as well as forward Mallory Swanson, who was on the roster for the June matches but did not see action. Swanson last played for the USWNT in the 2024 Olympic gold medal game and is still coming back to full fitness after the birth of her daughter in late 2025.

After naming three consecutive rosters that featured zero uncapped players, Hayes named four to this roster in goalkeeper Jordan Silkowitz, midfielder Evelyn Shores and forwards Pietra Tordin and Trinity Byars, with the latter three bringing extensive Youth National Team experience to their first call-ups. All four are having excellent NWSL seasons.

Additional Notes:

• The roster features the return of forward Ashley Sanchez, who is having an historic season in the National Women’s Soccer League, having scored 20 goals in 26 matches so far for the North Carolina Courage, tying the record for most goals in any single NWSL season. Sanchez, who has 28 caps and three international goals and was a member of the USA’s 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup Team, was last called up in January of 2025 but has not played in a match for the USA since Oct. 30, 2024, against Argentina.
• The Spain matches will commence two years and two months since Swanson last played in a match for the USA. She currently has 103 caps and 38 goals, which puts her in 17th on the USA’s all-time goal scorer list at the age of 28.
• During the April matches against Japan, forward Sophia Wilson made her first USWNT roster in 15 months following her pregnancy and the birth of her daughter in September of 2025. In June against Brazil, she scored her first goal as a mom in the 2-1 loss on June 6 and then forced the Brazil own goal in the 1-0 win on June 9. The 25-year-old Wilson has 63 caps for the USWNT along with 25 goals. Wilson has scored 13 goals so farthis NWSL season, good for third in the league.
• Wilson is the 18th mother to play for the USWNT. Should Mallory Swanson see game action against Spain, she will become the 19th.
• Of the four uncapped players…
  • This is the third call-up for goalkeeper Jordan Silkowitz, who received her first-ever call-up at any National Team level last November for a pair of friendlies against Italy and her second in the very next camp for a pair of matches in January.
  • Evelyn Shores has been training with the U.S. Youth National Teams since the U-14 level and helped the USA to the title at the 2018 Concacaf U-15 Girls’ Championship (a team that also feature Gisele and Alyssa Thompson). She has also played for the USA at the U-16, U-17, and U-20 levels. More recently, she has had consistent call-ups to the U.S. U-23 WNT. In June of 2025, while still in college, she scored a stoppage-time game-winner against the Germany U-23s on a world class finish.
  • Shores is having a breakout season with Angel City FC, having played in 24 games while scoring three goals with seven assists.
  • Pietra Tordin was the USA’s leading scorer at the 2024 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, with four goals, including a hat trick against Paraguay.
  • Tordin was a part of the “USWNT Futures Camp” in January of 2025. She has also seen action with the U.S. U-23 WNT over the past two years.
  • Tordin is also having a breakout season, hers with Portland Thorns FC, having scored seven goals with nine assists so far.
  • And speaking of breakout seasons, Trinity Byars is having one as well, after fully recovering from an ACL injury that kept her out of her first season in the NWSL with the San Diego Wave.
  • Byars has 10 goals in 21 matches to go along with two assists.
  • Byars, whose presence gives the USA roster a double dose of Trinity, played for the USA at the 2018 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup and the 2022 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup. She also has spent time with the U.S. U-23s.
• The call-up for Tordin boosts the number of players from the USA’s 2024 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Team who have received senior team call-ups to eight.
• Byars is the tenth player from the USA’s 2022 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Team to have received a senior team call-up.
• Three players on the roster have more than 100 caps, led by Heaps (178) and followed by Lavelle (122) and Swanson (103).
• Four players have between 50-100 caps: Emily Fox (78), Tierna Davidson (70), Wilson (63) and Rodman (57).
• Nine players have 11 or fewer caps.
• Of the 23 field players on the roster, 17 have scored in an international match, led by Heaps with 40 international goals. Swanson has 38 goals, Lavelle has 29 and Wilson has 25. The only other player in double figures is Rodman with 13.
• The only field players on the roster who haven’t scored in an international match are defenders Tara Rudd (12 caps), Gisele Thompson (11 caps), Lilly Reale (nine caps) and the three uncapped players, Trinity Byars, Pietra Tordin and Evelyn Shores.
• The roster features 20 NWSL players and six who are currently playing for clubs in Europe.
• Nineteen different professional clubs are represented on the roster, but no club has more than two players. Angel City FC, Bay FC, Gotham FC, the Washington Spirit, San Diego Wave FC, Portland Thorns FC and Chelsea FC from England have two players each.
• With the European season just kicking off, five of the six European-based players are on clubs participating in the UEFA Champions League with Lily Yohannes at OL Lyonnes, Alyssa Thompson and Naomi Girma at Chelsea FC, Emily Fox at Arsenal FC and Sam Coffey at Manchester City FC.
• The average age of this 26-player training camp roster is 25.0. Heaps and Lavelle are the only players on the roster who have passed their 30th birthday.
• The average caps per player heading into the first match against Spain is 37.5.
• The roster once again features the sister duo of Alyssa and Gisele Thompson. The Thompson sisters are the third pair of sisters to represent the USA. The first instance of USWNT sisters occurred in the late 1990s when twins Lorrie and Ronnie Fair were called up together. More recently, Samantha and Kristie Mewis were on the 2021 Olympic Team together.
• Hayes gave 32 players first caps in her first 32 matches at the helm. On Dec. 1, 2025, Kate Wiesner became the 50th different player to start a match under Emma Hayes in her then 32 matches as USWNT head coach.
• Hayes has now given caps to 60 different players. Of those 60 players, 56 have started a match.
• No other fulltime USWNT manager named more than 36 different starters in their first 30 games in charge.
• In 2025 alone, Hayes gave 44 different players caps, the most of any coach in the 40 years of the USWNT program.
• So far in 2026, Hayes has given caps to 41 different players.
• The three goalkeepers in camp have a total of 18 career caps. Claudia Dickey has 11 and Phallon Tullis-Joyce has seven.
• There is just one teenager on the roster in 19-year-old Lily Yohannes.
• Heaps (32) is the oldest player on the roster while Yohannes is the youngest.
• The USA is currently second in the FIFA Women’s World Rankings while Spain sits atop the rankings.
• These matches will mark the 18th and 19th times that the USWNT has played a match that has featured the two top-ranked teams in the world.
• Fifteen of those have been against Germany, one against Norway and one against England.
• The U.S. is unbeaten in each of these matches with an 11W-0L-6D record overall.
