William & Mary signs 9 Class of 2024 recruits from across 5 states

Williamsburg, VA – Head Coach Julie Shackford has announced a nine-player class that will be joining the William & Mary Tribe Soccer squad this fall.

The following players recently signed NIL’s ahead of their arrival next season: Kenley Campbell, Peyton Costello, Lily Hall, Sydney Incarnato, Maya Morey, Brooke Oswald, Lizzie Rubino, Mia Tegeris, and Daisy West.

Shackford on the incoming class: We simply cannot wait for this class to get to campus! These nine players are an incredible group who will positively impact the program, bringing a lot of talent and depth to our current squad. Additionally, they are all fierce competitors and have the mindset we look for when considering the impeccable culture that we’ve worked so hard to build over the last 6 years. We’ve spent a lot of time integrating them and feel they’ve already established bonds and an identity we will benefit from out of the gate!

Why W&M? “I chose William & Mary because of the amazing and competitive athletic culture as well as their demanding academics. On my first visit I could already see the amazing friendships I would gain with these girls. Their drive to work hard on the field and classroom, as well as their friendliness to everyone around them, helped me know that I would fit right in.”

Shackford on Campbell: Kenley is a versatile and athletic defender, capable of excelling in any of the back six field positions. After missing her sophomore season due to injury, she returned stronger and faster than before without missing a beat. She is both a great physical presence and equally as good on the ball. Why W&M? “I chose William and Mary because of the great atmosphere created by both the coaches and players. Besides the fact that the school is awesome and has a beautiful campus, I was swayed by the fact that the current players are so excited to be a part of the program, and past players always come back to support the Tribe. That tells me the program has a great culture and is well-run. I wanted to be able to have the same excitement that these players do, and I am counting down the days until I get to play my first game for the Tribe and sit in my first class at William and Mary. I also loved watching them play as you can see the coaching staff is very encouraging, but at the same time always wants to win. I knew that this was the right school for me because it felt like home when I visited for the first time. People always talk about what a beautiful campus the school has, and it is so true. I cannot wait to be a part of the Tribe!

Shackford on Costello: Peyton is certainly one of the top players in the Northeast, having developed in very high-level environments in both high school and club. She is versatile and the type of player that impacts every environment she is in. Her mindset and drive compliment her talent and are the exact intangibles we look for in the recruiting process.

Why W&M? “I chose William and Mary because it has a unique balance of quality academics and high-level sports. Additionally, the William and Mary women’s soccer team has a special type of culture that not many other teams possess. Because they are coached by two former players themselves, the team feels like a family, and while it is super competitive, the team always supports one another. I think that being a part of this team will set me up for an amazing career in the future, allow me to grow athletically and academically, and allow me to meet awesome people.”

Shackford on Hall: We were so impressed with Lily from the first ID clinic she attended as a freshman. She has a very sophisticated understanding of the game and her movement off the ball and finding space to create is as good as any player I have ever coached. She has the technical ability and vision of a midfielder combined with goal scoring instincts.

Why W&M? “I fell in love with William and Mary soccer when I came to my first ID camp in 2022, where I was surrounded by the most welcoming players and staff that I’ve ever met. They made the atmosphere fun by fostering competitiveness and growth. As I started touring and exploring, this welcoming environment, so rich in tradition, showed up everywhere I went throughout campus. The culture of W&M is what hooked me and makes me incredibly excited to represent the school as a student-athlete. With the competitive academic environment and variety of learning opportunities, it’s the perfect fit for me. It’s the type of place that you miss every time you leave, and I’m so blessed to be able to call it home soon. GO TRIBE.”

Shackford on Incarnato: Syd is a tremendous athlete, excelling on the basketball court in addition to the soccer field, and has a high IQ on the field. Our culture thrives on special people who really want to be here, and Sydney was willing to take an extra post-graduate year when our 2023 class was full. That speaks volumes to her commitment and loyalty which will undoubtedly enhance our team on and off the field.

Maya Morey

Why W&M? I chose William and Mary because not only was it a beautiful campus with a variety of positives, but it put a smile on my face that I didn’t even realize until I was told by my dad that I had been smiling my whole visit. William and Mary is not only a perfect fit for me as an athlete but as a student as well, which is hard to come by. At William and Mary are you not only surrounded by an outstanding campus with challenging academics but amazing people as well. One of the biggest reasons I chose W&M was for its tight knit culture. I have never felt more loved and welcomed in any other place than I do at W&M. On the sports side of things, William and Mary always has awesome crowds and supporters at all of their games home AND away; which was huge for me. And most importantly along with their tight knit and talented team is their amazing coaching staff. The coaching staff at W&M is nothing short of caring, encouraging and devoted. William and Mary is a perfect fit for me!

Shackford on Morey: Maya is a positive life force with the drive and determination needed to succeed at the next level. Her work rate always sets her apart on the field and results in her scoring goals or making plays that lead to goals. She’s the type of player who is going to do everything in her power to keep challenging herself and those around her!

Why W&M? I chose W&M because the coaching staff consistently made me feel wanted and valued during the recruiting process. The team and coaches were sincerely welcoming, and I felt like part of the Tribe family on my first visit!  I’m so excited to be a part of the exceptional team chemistry and relationships on and off the field. I feel I can thrive personally and academically in this environment on the beautiful campus and can’t wait to start my journey! Go Tribe!

Shackford on Oswald: Brooke is a gifted forward who is a proven goal scorer in all environments in which she has played. Her pace and ability to execute runs that exploit space behind back lines is a handful for the opposition. She has a competitive fire and finishing ability that are always evident, and we can’t wait to see her put some balls in the net for the Tribe!

Why W&M? I chose William & Mary for a multitude of reasons. When my recruiting process began, they were one of the first schools to reach out. I knew the coaching staff saw potential in me and were willing to take a chance on me. When I started to look into the school, I found even more reasons to fall in love with it.

When I came to visit for the first time, I saw how beautiful the campus is and felt the welcoming environment. The culture of the team is something I have never seen or experienced and I want to be a part of it. I felt comfortable without having been at William & Mary before. Every single person I have met that is affiliated with William & Mary has been kind and welcoming. The high academics of the school was also a major reason for me choosing William & Mary. I knew I wanted to continue challenging myself both on and off the field. They also work hard to get us connections and set us up for the future and rest of our lives.

Shackford on Rubino: Lizzie’s calm and composed presence in the midfield is not surprising when you consider she’s one of eleven children and has been raised with the chaos of a full sided soccer game in her household! Her ability to anticipate and execute quickly, coupled with high level technical ability, serve her very well as a defensive midfielder. Lizzie makes an excellent addition to our midfield squad.

Mia Tegeris
Goalkeeper

• PVAC First Team 2021, 2022, 2023

• ECNL-RL All Conference West 2022
• USLW-2 Virginia Marauders MVP 2023

Why W&M? William & Mary has always been a special place to me. Growing up, my father would take the family on frequent trips down to Williamsburg, although I still couldn’t tell you if he did it more for him or for us. Nonetheless, it was always a trip I was eager for; Williamsburg is a place that makes me feel calm. My dad would walk us through campus, showing off the landmarks. Looking back on those experiences, I think I was eager to make them my own. Deciding what college I wanted to go to was never a stressor for me because I always knew it would be W&M. From the first ID clinic I attended, I felt a sense of belonging, like this was a place I knew I would fit into. Since then, having the pleasure of spending time with the girls has opened my eyes to the supportive family-like, but extremely hardworking, community that has been cultivated on the William & Mary women’s soccer team. The team’s values make me certain I found an environment where I can be myself, which has always been the most important thing in my life. So, why did I choose William & Mary? I’d probably have to say Wythe’s Candy Shop!

Shackford on Tegeris: Mia is an incredibly athletic goalkeeper with tremendous potential. Having just made the jump from a small club to a competitive ECNL environment, the sky is the limit in terms of her development. She has the size, agility, skill, and mindset set to be a top-level Division 1 GK, and we are very excited for her next chapter with the Tribe!

Daisy West
Defender
West Point, NY | James I O’Neill HS

High School/Club:
• 2x All State New York 2022, 2023
• 3x All Section 2021, 2022, 2023
• 4x All League 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023
• All Section Basketball 2023
• All League Basketball 2023, 2024
• All Section Lacrosse 2022, 2023

Why W&M? William and Mary felt like home the moment I stepped on campus. The people were so welcoming and genuinely seemed happy to be there every day. Everyone seemed very passionate about their studies and other activities, and I felt like there’s always something going on. The alumni have nothing but amazing things to say and they truly seem like they have made friends for a lifetime. Choosing William and Mary was a great decision. It is a special place, and I am so excited to have the opportunity to play and attend. I can’t wait to make lifelong friends, learn, and be part of the Tribe!

Shackford on West: Daisy is the youngest in an all-military family so her impressive leadership qualities are no surprise. She is a rare three sport athlete in the modern-day recruiting world, excelling in basketball and lacrosse as well. Her physicality and aerial dominance will translate well to the next level as will her ability to score from set pieces.
