USSDA Boys East Conference Recap: October 14-15, 2017
MLS academies Montreal Impact FC, New York Red Bulls and Atlanta United FC continue to rule their respective divisions, but plenty of teams around the U.S. Soccer Development Academy’s East Conference are making runs toward the top as the fall season rages on. Continue reading for a full recap of the weekend action across the U-15, U-16/17 and U-18/19 age groups.

U-15
Northeast Division powerhouse Montreal Impact FC (6-0-0) continued its perfect start to the season with a tough 1-0 shutout of Beachside SC (3-3-1) on Saturday. Abdul Binate‘s 17th minute strike was all Montreal needed to pick up three points, as the defense notched its fourth consecutive clean sheet. Montreal has conceded just two goals through its first six games.
BW Gottschee Academy (7-0-0) also maintained its unblemished record, blanking Oakwood SC (2-6-0) 2-0 on Saturday morning in Connecticut. Luigi Prosperi (37′) and Paolo Primavera (55′) provided the scoring for Gottschee, while goalkeeper Xavier Valdez and the back line notched their fourth shutout through seven games.
MLS affiliate New York City FC (2-1-4) claimed four of six available points on the weekend, playing New England Revolution to a 2-2 draw on Saturday before earning a 1-0 win over Oakwood SC on Sunday. NYCFC fell behind twice in the game, but managed to equalize both times, salvaging a point. New England’s Samuel White opened the scoring in the 20th minute, before NYCFC’s Lucas Kaehr countered in the 36th. In the second half, New England’s Hikaru Fujiwara and NYCFC’s Joseph DiMaggio (68′) traded goals. A Thomas Rodriguez goal less than two minutes into the first half on Sunday held for the rest of the game as NYCFC buckled down defensively for its fourth clean sheet of the young season.

FC Greater Boston Bolts (2-2-3) and FC Westchester Armour (2-3-3) played to a scoreless draw in Northeast Division play on Sunday. Westchester goalkeeper J. Quinn Closson and Bolts keeper Jack Doogue recorded the clean sheets in net.
Atlantic Division leader New York Red Bulls Academy (6-0-0) kept its unblemished record alive, storming past Seacoast United 6-0 on Saturday. Thomas Tulgar earned a hat trick in the win while three other players netted one goal each, and the Red Bulls defense held an opponent off the scoreboard for the fourth time.
Virginia Development Academy (4-4-0) earned a pair of 2-0 wins on the weekend, defeating Atlantic Division foes Continental FC DELCO and Richmond United. Seth Hammond scored a goal in each game for VDA to lead the attack, and Andrew Messick netted his first goal of the season against Richmond. Goalkeepers Colin Such and Cory Taylor each earned a clean sheet in net for VDA.
Bethesda SC (6-2-1) continued its strong start to the season with a 2-0 shutout of Richmond United on Saturday, fueled by a shutout effort and second half goals from Jose Ortega (59′) and Conor Roberton (80′).
Elsewhere in the Atlantic Division, D.C. United Academy and Philadelphia Union Academy played to a 2-2 draw, and Baltimore Armour played Cedar Stars Academy – Monmouth to a 1-1 draw.
Southeast Division leader Atlanta United FC (6-2-0) claimed all six available points on the weekend with a pair of 4-3 home wins over North Carolina Fusion and North Carolina FC Youth. Joseph Collins scored a goal in each game, while seven other Atlanta players netted one goal each for the team’s balanced attack.
Orlando City SC (3-1-0) holds the No. 2 spot in the Southeast Division table following a dominant 6-1 win over in-state opponent IMG Academy, highlighted by a Luc Granitur hat trick and a brace from Christian Miranda-Cordeiro.
Other highlights from the Southeast Division include: Armada FC Pro Academy’s (2-2-0) Wilfredo Rivera Cepeda scoring three goals in a 17-minute span in the second half of a 5-1 rout of Chargers SC; Georgia side Concorde Fire (4-3-0) piling up four first half goals, including three from Matthew Ushry, in a win over NC Fusion; TBU Rowdies defeating United FA 1-0; and Kendall SC edging Boca United FC 3-2.

U-16/17
Montreal Impact FC (4-1-0) notched its first shutout of the season in a 2-0 win over Beachside SC, holding on to the top spot in the Northeast Division. Impact goalkeeper Benjamin Collins played the full 90 minutes in net, along with defenders Zackiel Brault and Gabriel Capano-Gauthier.
Second place side BW Gottschee Academy (5-1-1) blanked an opponent for the third time on Saturday, defeating Oakwood SC 1-0 with Ervin Dervisevic scoring the game-winner in the 76th minute.
Third place side New York City FC (4-1-2) collected four of six possible points, defeating New England Revolution 3-2 before playing Oakwood SC to a 1-1 draw. Four different players found the net for NYCFC on the weekend.
FC Greater Boston Bolts (1-4-1) secured their first win on Sunday, holding on for a 2-1 result against FC Westchester Armour with goals from Christian Pulselli (23′) and Andrew Tong (50′).
Atlantic Division leader New York Red Bulls (6-0-0) overwhelmed Seacoast United 8-0 in a game which featured a hat trick from Scott Taylor and a brace by Esteban Molina.
The Atlantic’s second and third place sides, D.C. United (3-1-2) and Philadelphia Union (2-0-3) battled to a 2-2 draw on Saturday, both scoring a goal in each half.

Bethesda SC (1-1-5) secured its first win of the season after a series of early season draws, blowing past Richmond United in an 6-0 rout highlighted by a Zion Philbert hat trick.
Virginia Development Academy (3-3-2) picked up all six points this weekend with back-to-back two-goal wins over Continental FC DELCO and Richmond United. Khatawut Kraiwan sparked the VDA attack with a goal in each game.
Southeast Division leader Atlanta United FC (6-1-0) racked up three first half goals, including two from Remi Smith, to defeat NC Fusion 3-0 for its sixth win of the young season.
Georgia’s Concorde Fire (5-2-0) continued its strong start, earning 3-1 and 2-1 wins over North Carolina FC Youth and NC Fusion. Four players found the net on the weekend, with Justin Guest leading the way with a goal in each game.
Six players found the net for Chargers SC (3-2-0) as Emmanuel Ameres recorded a brace in a 7-0 win over Armada FC Pro Academy in one of three all-Florida match-ups over the weekend. The other results in the Sunshine State included a 2-2 draw between Boca United FC and Kendall SC and a 2-0 shutout win for IMG Academy over Orlando City SC.
U-18/19
Montreal Impact FC’s (5-0-0) stronghold on the Northeast Division extends to the eldest age group as well. Montreal downed Beachside SC 10-1 on Saturday, receiving a hat trick from Protais Mutambala, along with braces from Daniel Kinumbe and Mathieu Choiniere.
Second place side New York City FC (4-0-3) remains unbeaten as well, after earning a win and a draw on the weekend. After playing New England Revolution to a 1-1 draw on Saturday, NYCFC outlasted Oakwood SC 2-1 on Sunday evening.
Prior to Sunday’s loss to NYCFC, third place Oakwood SC (5-2-1) opened the weekend with a thriling 2-1 win against BW Gottschee Academy, fueled by a 58th minute strike from Simon Becher and a 90th minute game-winner by Kamer Nuhiu.
In another all-Northeast match-up, FC Westchester Armour’s Joshua C. Hernandez (55′) and Frantz Pierrot (71′) each scored equalizers in the second half after falling behind twice against FC Greater Boston Bolts.

New York Red Bulls (6-0-0) also reigns the U-18/19 level in the Atlantic Division, having still conceded just one goal on the season after another shutout victory. The Red Bulls blanked Seacoast United 1-0 on Saturday afternoon, with John Murphy scoring the only goal of the game in the 21st minute.
Three players found the net for Bethesda SC (2-2-2) in a 3-0 win over Richmond United, while goalkeeper Erich Kindermann and defenders Baraka Kiingi, Jack Hwang and Jherson Machado all played the full 90 minutes in the clean sheet effort.
On Sunday, Baltimore Armour (2-1-2) played Cedar Stars Academy – Monmouth to a 2-2 draw at Covenant Park in Maryland.
The Southeast Division saw Atlanta United FC (5-0-2) continue its unbeaten season, earning 4-3 and 5-0 wins over NC Fusion and North Carolina FC Youth. James Brighton, Chad Letts and Dawson Gideon each scored two goals for Atlanta over the course of the weekend to lead the offense.
Third place Boca United FC (2-1-1) stormed back from an early 2-0 deficit to defeat Kendall SC 4-3. Riley Ferch recorded a second half brace in the comeback, which included a 90th minute game-winner.
North Carolina FC Youth (3-2-1) had three players find the net in a steady 3-0 shutout of Concorde Fire on Saturday. Concorde Fire bounced back with a 3-2 win over NC Fusion on Sunday, behind a brace from William Carter and a goal from Davis Eddleman.
In an all-Florida match-up, IMG Academy and Orlando City SC played to an entertaining 3-3 draw on Saturday evening. IMG’s Andres Sanchez led all scorers with two goals, scoring once in each half. All three of Orlando’s goals came during a second half rally to earn a point.
