U.S. Soccer announces three USMNT matches in September

CHICAGO (Via U.S. Soccer) – The U.S. Men’s National Team will play three major matches – two preparation matches in May for Copa America Centenario and a World Cup Qualifier in September – in Frisco, Texas, Kansas City and Jacksonville, Florida.

The USA’s two warm-up matches prior to hosting the Copa America Centenario this summer, will be against Ecuador on Wednesday, May 25, at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas (7 p.m. CT, TV: TBD) and Bolivia on Saturday, May 28, at Children’s Mercy Park in Kansas City, Kansas (7 p.m. CT on FS1 and Univision networks).

After Copa America Centenario, the U.S. will play its final match of the Semifinal Round of 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifying on Tuesday, Sept. 6, at EverBank Field in Jacksonville. The match, which could be vital for advancing to the Final Round of World Cup Qualifying, will be broadcast on FS1 and Univision networks. The exact kickoff time is still to be determined.

The U.S., which has played three of six games in the Semifinal Round, faces Guatemala tonight in Columbus, Ohio, in a crucial World Cup Qualifier presented by Liberty Mutual Insurance (7 p.m. ETon ESPN2, UniMas, UDN).

Additional Notes:

The USA drew 0-0 with Trinidad & Tobago on Nov. 17, 2015 in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad in their second game of Semifinal Round World Cup Qualifying.
The MNT is 16-2-4 all-time against Trinidad & Tobago, holding an 11-0-1 mark in matches on U.S. soil.
The U.S. also holds an 11-1-3 edge over the Soca Warriors in World Cup Qualifying, going 7-0-1 in home matches.
The USA is a perfect 4-0-0 at Jacksonville’s EverBank Field, winning friendly matches against Israel in 1997 (2-1), Germany in 1999 (3-0), Scotland in 2012 (5-1) and Nigeria in 2014 (2-1).
Toyota Stadium has proved to be a favorable host for the United States, as the USA holds a 2-0-1 record in Frisco dating back to 2006. Home to FC Dallas, the stadium hosted the first two matches of Group A during the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup, including a 2-1 victory for the USA against Honduras as Texas native Clint Dempsey scored twice.
Currently 13th in the FIFA rankings and atop the South American World Cup Qualifying standings, Ecuador was drawn into Group B for the Copa America and will face Brazil, Haiti and Peru. The USA first played in Copa America in 1993, falling 2-0 to host Ecuador in the group stage.
The USA holds a 2-5-5 record against Ecuador in a series that dates back to 1984. The teams last played to a 1-1 draw on Oct. 10, 2014 in East Hartford, Connecticut, which was the farewell match for USA all-time goal scoring leader Landon Donovan.
The USA has played at Children’s Mercy Park (formerly Sporting Park) four times and is 3-0-1 in those games, earning wins in World Cup qualifiers in 2012 and 2013 against Guatemala and Jamaica, respectively, and a CONCACAF Gold Cup match against Guadeloupe in 2011.
Currently 77th in the FIFA rankings, Bolivia was drawn into Group D at this summer’s Copa America along with Argentina, Chile and Panama.
The USA has not faced Bolivia since 1999, a 0-0 draw in Santa Cruz, Bolivia. The teams have not met on U.S. soil since June 12, 1996, a 2-0 loss for the USA in Washington, D.C. during the U.S. Cup.
The USA and Bolivia met in the 1995 Copa America, a 1-0 loss for the USA in Paysandu, Uruguay.
The USA has never beaten Bolivia and will carry a 0-2-4 all-time record into the match in Kansas City.
