Two Georgetown men named BIG EAST Players of the Week

WASHINGTON (Via Georgetown University) – No. 25 Georgetown University men’s soccer players Brandon Allen (Old Bridge, N.J./St. Joseph) and JT Marcinkowski (Alamo, Calif./De La Salle) were both named BIG EAST Players of the Week on Monday.

Allen was named the Offensive Player of the Week, while Marcinkowski was both the Rookie of the Week and the Goalkeeper of the Week. Additionally, Allen earned a spot on the CollegeSoccerNews.com Team of the Week.

Allen led the BIG EAST last week in all scoring categories: points (7), goals (2) and assists (3). In the Hoyas’ 3-1 victory over then-No. 1 UCLA, the senior forward assisted on two of the three goals, including the final goal in the 88th minute in a three-on-two situation to seal the victory. Over the weekend, Allen added two goals and an assist in a 5-2 victory over Radford.

This is Allen’s first BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week award this season and the third of his career. It is the first Offensive Player of the Week honor for the Hoyas in 2015. Allen was the BIG EAST Preseason Offensive Player of the Year.

Rookie keeper Marcinkowski went 2-0 in a week that included a victory over then-No. 1 UCLA at home. The Alamo, Calif., native collected 10 saves for the week, six against the Bruins, holding them to just one goal in a 3-1 Hoya win. Marcinkowski gave up just two goals for the week, including one penalty kick. He managed four saves in the 5-2 win against Radford. His 10 saves for the week were a league best.

This marks Marcinkowski’s first-career honors and both the first BIG EAST Rookie of the Week and Goalkeeper of the Week awards for the Blue & Gray this season.

The Blue & Gray will be back in action on Thursday as the squad opens a pair of road contests at Virginia Commonwealth University, before traveling to Morgantown, W.Va., for a 4 p.m. game on Sunday. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m., in Richmond, Va. Live stats and a webcast will be available at the VCU athletic website.
