Texas A&M signs Iceland Youth National Team midfielder Brynja Knudsen

BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – The Texas A&M soccer team strengthened its midfield with the addition Icelandic standout Brynja Knudsen for the 2026 campaign, head coach Bobby Shuttleworth announced.

“We are incredibly excited to welcome Brynja to College Station for this upcoming fall,” Shuttleworth said. “She has immense potential and we believe she will add to our team on and off the field.

“Competing in the top division in Iceland has given her high-level experience and her time with the Iceland Youth National Team has helped shape her competitive mentality and understanding of the game. She possesses strong technical ability and reads the game well. We look forward to helping her continue to grow and develop in Aggieland.”

Knudsen plays for Knattspyrnufélagið Þróttur (Thróttur) who is currently in third place in Besta Deild Kvenna, the top league in Iceland. She has played 56 career matches for Thróttur, including 21 during the most recent campaign.

The Reykjavik native has registered 12 caps with youth national squads. She played five matches with the Iceland U17 squad in 2024 as part of the Euro U17 qualifying and did the same with the U19 side in 2025. She has three U19 matches slated for April as part of European Championship Qualifying Round 2.
