Texas A&M head coach G Guerrieri announces retirement after 33 seasons

BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – G Guerrieri, the only head coach in Texas A&M soccer history, announced his retirement after 33 seasons at the helm.

“First I want to thank all of our players – from the current team and the prior 32 teams – for their commitment, dedication and amazing contributions on and off the field,” Guerrieri said. “I’ve had the pleasure to work with some of the best human beings you’ll ever come across. That includes my gratitude for being able to work alongside incredible coaches and support staff. This year, Alyssa (Bower), Curt (Magnuson), Seth (Taylor) and Tim (Strader) were tremendous to work with, and they all have bright futures in soccer leadership positions and in life.

“I’ve said many times I’m the luckiest guy you know. I’m so grateful for the leaders I’ve been around in my time in Aggieland, going back to being hired by John David Crow, Lynn Hickey and Wally Groff through decades of change and growth at Texas A&M to the present day and Trev Alberts. But none of our success or accomplishments would be possible without the loving support of my wife Terri, and my Aggie kids – Emily, Alan and Conner.”

Guerrieri built the program from scratch into one of the elite sides in the nation. He positioned the Maroon & White atop the SEC as the conference’s only program with more than 500 wins. They are also the only Lone Star squad to reach the milestone.

“We are incredibly grateful for everything that Coach G has built and accomplished at Texas A&M,” Director of Athletics Trev Alberts said. “Coach G brought Aggie soccer to national prominence through more than 30 years as the head coach, making a number of NCAA Tournament runs and claiming nearly 20 conference championships. His impact on Aggieland will always be felt, even beyond all of his accomplishments on the field. His teams have seen great success in the classroom and beyond. He has helped many Aggies achieve their dreams and impacted countless lives around the sport of soccer.”

In 2022, when Guerrieri hit the 500-win mark in his coaching career, he became only the fifth women’s soccer coach in NCAA Division I history to achieve the milestone. With 523 career wins, including two seasons at Hardin-Simmons, he ranks fifth all-time in Division I coaching victories.

Guerrieri guided Texas A&M to 18 conference championships – 10 regular-season titles and eight conference tournament crowns. He is a five-time conference coach of the year and five-time NSCAA Central Regional Coach of the Year.

In his last 31 years, he led the Maroon & White to 28 NCAA Tournaments, including 16 appearances in the Sweet 16, seven Elite Eights and the 2014 NCAA Women’s College Cup.

Not only have Guerrieri’s teams fared well on the field, but they have sparkled in the classroom. The Aggies earned their 14th consecutive United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award in 2025, and the squad were regularly celebrated for having the highest team GPA in the athletics department.
