East Windsor, N.J. (Via NJ Youth Soccer) ― New Jersey Youth Soccer recently hosted its 31st Annual NJYS Awards Dinner presented by RWJBarnabas Health, where many players, coaches and members of the soccer community were celebrated at the Pines Manor in Edison, N.J. One of the honorees that night was Sean O’Halloran, who was selected as the 2018 NJYS Recreation Coach of the Year.

“Coach O’ Halloran is a volunteer youth soccer coach who has gone above and beyond to place the emotional and physical well-being of the players above all else,” said Rick Meana, NJYS Director of Coaching.

A Wall Township Police Officer and NJYS F License holder, O’Halloran coaches at Wall Soccer Club and also serves as its Director of Recreational Soccer Programs. He has been coaching at the club for the past six years and expanded into his director role in 2018.

Through coaching, O’Halloran focuses on the value of fair play and good sportsmanship while creating a training environment that encourages players to work hard and take responsibility for their individual improvement. A known motivator throughout Wall Soccer Club, he stresses a philosophy for players to “make yourself better when no one is watching.” Even when he is not coaching, O’Halloran can be found regularly at the Wall Soccer Complex, where he is continuously promoting the game of soccer.

In his administrative role, O’Halloran implemented recreational coaching education in the form of a club-sponsored US Soccer Grassroots class for all Wall Soccer Club coaches. Additionally, he has partnered with neighboring communities to create more opportunities for young players at the recreation level.
