Northern Virginia teams dominate Va. State Cup semifinalists

By Jimmy LaRoue

Teams from Northern Virginia make up the bulk of the semifinalists in the Under-12 Boys and U-12 through U-14 girls’ brackets of the Virginia Youth Soccer Association’s spring 2012 State Cup.

Just four of the 16 current semifinalists reside south of Prince William County – three of those from the Richmond Kickers (U-12 Boys 8v8, U-12 Girls 8v8 and U-13 Girls) and the other coming from the Fredericksburg area, in the form of FASA Impact Elite 99 (U-12 Girls 8v8).

Northern Virginia teams also dominate the slate for U-13 and U-14 boys in the State Cup, with just four of the 16 quarterfinal participants coming from outside the region.

The Richmond Kickers Elite, FC Richmond Magic 97 U-14 boys, Shenandoah Valley United Boys U-13 Premier of Harrisonburg and SOCA 97B 01 of Charlottesville are the other four teams.

State Cup semifinals and finals action will take place May 12-13 at the Hampton Roads Soccer Complex in Virginia Beach. Here are the semifinal brackets that have already been determined and the schedule of quarterfinal games in U-13 and U-14 play:
