STORYLINES
• Maryland hosts rival Georgetown on Friday night for the second home match of the young 2016 campaign. The Terps are 28-2-1 against the Hoyas all-time but are 0-2-1 in the last three outings, including a 2-1 loss in D.C. last season.
• The then-No. 4 Maryland men’s soccer team erupted for five goals in a 5-0 rout of Hartford in the home opener Monday night at Ludwig Field. Sophomore transfer Gordon Wild scored two goals while Sebastian Elney, George Campbell and Jorge Calix each added one as the Terps rebounded from a 1-1 draw at No. 16 UCLA Friday night. D.J. Reeves and Eryk Williamson chipped in with a pair of assists each.
• After defeating top-seed and host Ohio State last season in Columbus to capture their fourth straight league tournament championship, the Terps will look to make it five in a row in 2016. Maryland has won the Big Ten Tournament title in each of its first two seasons in the conference.
• The Terps set a Ludwig Field record last season when 8,449 fans watched Maryland defeat UCLA in overtime on a perfect College Park night.
• Maryland was picked to win the Big Ten this season, per a poll by the league’s coaches released earlier in August. Alex Crognale, Chris Odoi-Atsem and Eryk Williamson were tabbed Players to Watch by the conference.
• Of the 38 goals scored a year ago, 26 were by players returning this season, including a combined 13 from sophomores Eryk Williamson and Sebastian Elney.
