No. 6 Syracuse men’s soccer stays unbeaten with 2-0 shutout of NC State
RALEIGH, N.C. (Via Syracuse University) – No. 6/4 Syracuse remained undefeated after a 2-0 shutout against NC State in Raleigh, N.C. in the ACC opener for both squads on Friday, Sept. 9. The Orange are now 5-0 this season, while the Wolfpack go to 1-3.
Syracuse’s first goal was set up when sophomore Jonathan Hagman was taken down in the box by a NC State defender. Senior Chris Nanco converted the resulting penalty kick for his team-leading fourth goal of the season to give the Orange a 1-0 lead.
The score stayed that way until the 74th minute when senior Oyvind Alseth scored directly off the corner kick for his first goal of the year. Sophomore goalkeeper Hendrik Hilpert kept NC State off the scoreboard with four saves in the second half, including one with his quick reflexes off a Wolfpack corner. The shutout was his third of the season.
The Orange return home for a pair of matches next week. Syracuse welcomes Hofstra on Tuesday, Sept. 13 and nationally-ranked Boston College on Friday, Sept. 16.
