No. 18 UConn women’s soccer defeats Pacific 1-0 on Friday

STORRS, Conn. (Via University of Connecticut) – An early goal from redshirt senior Stephanie Ribeiro (Pawtucket, R.I.) was just enough for the No. 18 UConn women’s soccer team, who topped Pacific 1-0 Friday at Joseph J. Morrone Stadium.
The Huskies improve to 4-1 overall on the season while Pacific, who has yet to earn a win this year, drops to 0-3. Senior goalkeeper Emily Armstrong (Collegeville, Pa.) claims her fourth win in net this season, tallying five saves against the Tigers.
Ribeiro netted her third game-winning goal of the season right out of the gate in just the third minute of the game and, despite UConn outshooting Pacific 31-11 overall, the next 87 minutes remained scoreless.
Senior Rachel Hill (Rollinsford, N.H.) played the ball up to junior Tanya Altrui (Branford, Conn.), who took it in tight to the goal line. Altrui crossed the ball over in front and Ribeiro tapped it in to give the Huskies an early 1-0 lead.

Junior Danielle Gottwik (New Port Richey, Fla.) created several nice opportunities for the Huskies. The first came in the 33rd minute when she lofted a nice cross in front of the goal, but no one could capitlize. She finished the night with three shots.
Pacific hit two shots off the cross bar that could have evened the score, but the bounces were in favor of the Huskies and the UConn defense cleared it out.
The Tigers closest chance was a breakway opportunity in the 67th minute, but Armstrong came out to challenge and made a huge diving save to preserve UConn’s 1-0 lead.
