New York youth player fights through brain surgery to play one more game
(Via Disney Soccer Showcase) – New York City area youth soccer player Dominique Cruz has missed more than three years of her high school athletic career since undergoing brain surgery as a 13-year-old. Cruz will make her anticipated return to the pitch on Wednesday as she joins her U-17 club team Brentwood SC Pride 97 at the Disney Soccer Showcase in Orlando, Florida.
After a long fight to get back on the field, Cruz has begun practicing again for Brentwood SC and he will return to the field in uniform for the first time since her surgery on New Years Eve at 4:30 p.m. at Northeast Regional Park (Field 4). She will play her first game at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 1 (Field 30).
Now a senior in high school and unable to continue playing soccer into college, Cruz will finish her soccer career during the Disney event.
