New York City FC Academy U16s win group at Generation adidas Cup

(Via New York City FC) – The New York City FC Academy U-16 have advanced to the semifinals of the Generation adidas Cup Premier bracket following a 1-0 victory over Pumas.
Thirston Briscoe’s header one minute into the second half of their final group game was enough to secure progress to the last four with a near-perfect record.
Despite being the youngest team at the competition, Matt Pilkington’s side qualify without conceding a single goal, defeating Seattle Sounders on penalties following a 0-0 draw and besting Deportivo Saprissa 2-0 in the second game before this latest win.
They had to win in adverse circumstances against Pumas, going down to ten men for the final quarter of the game after Velkjo Petkovic was red carded for a second bookable offense.
Pilkington’s boys dug in and held on to win the group.
We’ll let you know who they will face in the semifinals on Thursday.
Matt Pilkington’s side defeated Deportivo Saprissa 2-0 last time out following their penalty shootout win over Seattle Sounders.
With five points from their two games, the youngest side at the competition will hope to make it eight with a win over Mexican opposition at 1pm ET.
