MSYSA hires Dr. Greg Smith as Executive Director

(Via MSYSA) – The Maryland State Youth Soccer Association has announced the hiring of Dr. Greg Smith as MSYSA Executive Director.

In this role, Smith will be responsible for overseeing every aspect of the state association. MSYSA is currently comprised of more than 140 affiliate member clubs and leagues with more than 63,000 registered players, and is responsible for administering coaching education, State Cup, Presidents Cup and ODP in addition to sanctioning tournaments and completing international clearance requests, to name a few.

Smith has been with the association since 2012 when he joined the office staff as Programs Administrator.

“Over the past five years Greg has continuously proven his dedication and commitment to the association as he has risen through the ranks,” said MSYSA President Mark Cantor. “Greg tirelessly strives every day to improve every aspect of the association in an effort to grow, enhance and improve the sport of soccer in this state.”

MSYSA is currently pursuing a grassroots program aimed at improving the soccer instruction at the youngest ages and a partnership with multiple healthcare providers in the local area to help improve the health and safety of all players specifically with regards to concussion management, among other projects.

“This is an exciting time to be involved with youth soccer and I truly believe that Maryland is positioned to be one of the leading state associations in the country,” Smith said. “I am honored to continue serving the membership in this new capacity and I look forward to growing the sport through teamwork in the form of partnerships.”

“The future of soccer in Maryland is bright and we are excited that Greg has agreed to continue leading MSYSA is this new role,” Cantor said.
