MSSA: Quarterfinals set for this Sunday in Stewart and Morton Cups

HYATTSVILLE, Md. – After several weather delays, the MSSA Cups are mostly caught up after Sunday’s games, with eleven matches played between the Rowland and Morton Cups.

Defending champion Screaming Eagles moved onto the semifinal of the Rowland Cup with their 8:1 thrashing of Baltimore Kickers Bayern. They will meet ASA Charm City FC who defeated Academy FC 3:1. The lower half of the bracket saw identical 2:1 results with Christos FC over Washington Elite FC and the Maryland Bays winning against Spartans FC.

The semifinals are set for Sunday, February 16 at Blandair Park. The winner of the Rowland Cup will represent Maryland in the Region I qualifiers of the US Open Cup.

Match Day 1 of the Morton Cup is finally complete as it has been twice postponed by bad weather. The top two sides in each group advanced to set up the quarterfinal round next Sunday.

At Long Reach HS, Washington Elite O30 will meet against Deportivo Maryland with the other pair matching Armada & Ocean Spirit. The other two quarterfinal matches has Colombia FC vs. Pipeline Red and defending champion FC Reina taking on Brothers United FC. Those games will be played at Howard HS on February 16.

The other quarterfinals for this Sunday will be the Stewart Cup, Maryland’s amateur championship. Blandair Park will host those games including a rematch of yesterday’s Rowland Cup contest between Washington Elite FC and Christos FC.
