McLean Hotspur Green wins Region I Champions League title
(Via McLean U-14 Boys) – McLean Hotspur Green U14 Boys won the Region 1 Champions League held in New Castle, Delaware this past weekend. With the win, the team is eligible and will compete in the US Youth Soccer Region I Championships held in Barboursville, West Virginia (June 25-30, 2015).
McLean beat HMMS (PA) 1-0 to qualify for the finals. In the Sunday finals, McLean played PDA from New Jersey. The game was tied 0-0 in regulation play and McLean clenched the championship in the second extra time period with a goal winning 1-0. The team is coached by Jamil Walker, former MLS professional player and NSCAA National Youth Coach of the Year in 2014.
Region I Champions League is a part of the US Youth Soccer National Championship Series (NCS) which is a year-long tournament that features competition for boys and girls teams in the Under 12 through Under 19 age groups. In Region I, the National Championship Series begins with teams in all 15 state associations vying for their State Championship titles. State Champions in these age groups and champions of the Region I Champions League-Division I are eligible to compete in the US Youth Soccer Region I Championships. Winner for the Region 1 Championships go on to compete in the US Youth Soccer National Championship held in Tulsa, OK (July, 2015).
