Landon Donovan to return to the U.S. Men’s National Team, according to Gulati
After the U.S. Men’s National Team fell 2-1 to Honduras in a disappointing Hexagonal opener yesterday, many wondered whether or not Landon Donovan’s presence would have helped the team. Donovan, who is currently taking a break from soccer due to physical and mental exhaustion, did not play on Wednesday and has not played since the end of the LA Galaxy 2012 season.
During a breakfast with reporters before the match against Honduras, U.S. Soccer Federation president Sunil Gulati was asked about Donovan and whether or not he would return to international play for the U.S.
“We have 24 healthy players, and naturally we want to start talking about the one who’s not here,” Gulati said when asked about Donovan. “I had dinner with Landon a couple of weeks ago in New York. I have no doubt he’ll play at some point.”
LA Galaxy coach Bruce Arena has also remained confident that Donovan will return this year, but no one knows what his timeline might be.
