JMU women’s soccer team adds 2 transfers from Virginia Tech, 1 from Oregon State
HARRISONBURG, VA – The James Madison University women’s soccer team will add three transfers for the 2026 season who will join the team in the spring, Head Coach Joshua Walters, Sr. announced.
“We were very surgical with the positions and types of players we were after in the Fall portal, and I feel like we nailed it! A big shout-out to Assistant Coach David Oakes and Associate Head Coach Rob Donnenwirth for all the work and hours spent looking to add value to our team. I am excited to add 3 players we evaluated and recruited when they were high school prospects. We were able to bring back and keep very good Virginia players home. This group will impact the back line and the forward line. They all played very good minutes this past season at their previous schools, and we project that this will help them acclimate to our uncommon way of playing faster.”
Lauren Carpenter
Hometown: Warrenton, VA
Height: 5’5”
Position: F/D
High School/Previous School: Kettle Run/Virginia Tech
Coach Walters’ thoughts: “Lauren has so much capacity and capability as a player. She plays in the wide areas and loves getting forward to overload the final third”
Samantha DeGuzman
Hometown: Manassas, VA
Height: 5’3”
Position: M/F
High School/Previous School: Colgan/Virginia Tech
Coach Walters’ thoughts: “One of the best youth goal scorers in the state that I see scoring goals for us. She is a dynamic 1v1 player that likes to take on defenders and has a nose for the goal.”
Hailey Martinez
Hometown: Gainesville, VA
Height: 5’7”
Position: M
High School/Previous School: Patriot/Oregon State
Coach Walter’s thoughts: “A ball playing center back that grew up in a similar type system building out of the back. She is an intelligent player that will thrive in our style.”
