MIDLOTHIAN, Va. – The boys’ weekend of the 2013 Jefferson Cup has gotten off to a rousing start.
The tournament’s first day of action took place in the aftermath of a winter storm that left remnants of snow, puddles and a lot of wind on Friday’s opening day.
Organizers at the host club, the Richmond Strikers, were forced to reshuffle most of the weekend schedule, moving dozens of Friday and Saturday matches to artificial-turf facilities as the area’s grass fields dried out from the thorough soaking central Virginia received earlier in the week.
With most of the opening day action at the River City Sportsplex, Soccerwire.com reporters had their eyes trained on the fields there.
Here’s just a few of the sights from the on-the-field action, played out in front of a plethora of college coaches evaluating the top talent on display from nearly every state in the nation.
