Houston Dynamo FC secures 16-year-old Sebastian Rodriguez as Homegrown Player

HOUSTON – Houston Dynamo FC have signed 16-year-old academy product Sebastian Rodriguez to an MLS NEXT Pro contract for 2024, along with an agreement for the midfielder to join the first team on an MLS contract as a Homegrown player starting in 2025 through the 2026 MLS season, with club options for 2027, 2028 and 2029.

Rodriguez is the 17th Dynamo Academy product to sign a Homegrown contract with the first team and the fifth signed by general manager, Pat Onstad, since February 2022.

“Seba is a promising young central midfielder who joined our club in 2017 and worked his way through the Dynamo Academy to become an impact player with Houston Dynamo 2 last season, helping the team earn their second consecutive playoff berth. He is a great example for local Houston kids about the commitment required to become a professional soccer player and we look forward to his continued development within the club,” Dynamo General Manager Pat Onstad said. “We want to thank his mother Patricia, his father Salbador, and his Aldine-based youth club Texanitos for their significant contributions to his development.”

Rodriguez joined the Dynamo Academy in 2017, joining the U-11 team after two years with Texanitos. The Porter, Texas native worked his way through the Dynamo Academy to become a key contributor to Houston Dynamo 2’s midfield last season, helping the MLS NEXT Pro club advance to the postseason for the second consecutive year. The 16-year-old made 19 appearances and earned 12 starts for Dynamo Dos in 2023, contributing one goal and one assist over 1,004 regular-season minutes.
