One Win Away
After two thrilling semifinal matchups, XF Academy and Eclipse Select SC will face off in the ECNL Boys U18/19 National Championship at the ECNL Boys National Playoffs in Seattle, streamed live on ECNLTV, powered by Hudl.
XF Academy, the hometown team, earned the No. 1 overall seed through their stellar play in the regular season. XF Academy finished first in the Northwest Conference, going 15-0-1 in the regular season with a +43 goal differential. Despite the record, XF Academy has faced its fair share of adversity, truly earning their spot in the National Championship.
In the opening round, XF Academy needed penalties to advance against NCFC Youth Academy, then went down 3-0 in the first half against DKSC in the Round of 16. However, XF Academy battled back, scoring three unanswered goals, including one in added time, to force penalties against DKSC. In the shootout, XF Academy proved better, advancing by winning PKs 4-3. Riding the high of that win and heightened confidence, XF Academy dispatched SC Surf and then weathered a strong push from LV Heat Surf despite being a man down for a 3-2 win in the semifinals.
On the other side of the pitch, Eclipse Select SC had an equally stellar regular season. The team went undefeated in the Midwest Conference to the tune of a 14-0-0 record and finished with a +28 goal differential and averaged just one goal allowed per game. Including their matches at the Playoffs, Eclipse Select is one win away from a perfect season.
Eclipse Select has continued its strong defensive play in Seattle, earning a 2-0 win against UFA in the opening round and then advancing to the quarterfinals with a 2-1 victory against Florida Premier. The Chicago squad exploded for a 4-1 win against Mustang SC in the quarterfinals, and then needed a late equalizer against Concorde Fire Platinum to send their semifinal matchup to PKs. In penalties, two massive saves from goalkeeper Daniel Llanos pushed Eclipse Select into the National Championship match.
One hopes a game with stakes as high as a national championship pits together deserving teams playing at the height of their capabilities, and that is surely the case in the ECNL Boys U18/19 National Championship match. A high-powered XF Academy offense vs. a stingy Eclipse Select defense. One team looking to avenge a previous national title game loss vs. another one win away from a perfect season.
This one’s for all the marbles.
Straight From the Source
“To win the ECNL championship in front of our family and friends – this is our home – it would mean the world to me and our entire team. Some of the members of this team have been together since we were eight years old. We are a family and work together in everything we do.” – XF Academy Captain Benjamin Milstein
“To end my youth soccer journey playing for Eclipse is how it should be. I have been with this club since I was five years old and they have always made it feel like family. This is a group that plays for each other and it shows. I’m grateful for this final opportunity to win a national championship.” – Eclipse Select Captain Sam Hess
