Dev. Academy teams continue late-season push

The New York Red Bulls have a pair of key games this weekend when they face Albertson SC on Saturday and FC Westchester on Sunday.

The Red Bulls Under-18 team leads the Liberty Division by a point over Players Development Academy, with Albertson SC and FC Westchester still in the mix at third and fourth place, respectively. While PDA has clinched an automatic playoff qualification in the U-16 age group, the race for second place is still very much alive for Albertson SC, currently in second place, and the fifth-place Red Bulls.

Though Shattuck Saint Mary’s Soccer Academy U-18s did not play last week, they still qualified for an academy playoff berth. They are six points clear of second place Colorado Rapids and has played two fewer games.

Meanwhile, St. Louis Scott Gallagher Missouri U-16s moved into first place in the Frontier Division after winning 4-2 last Sunday against Colorado Rush. The Missouri side is a point ahead of Shattuck Saint Mary’s Soccer Academy.

The East Conference Liberty Division’s Players Development Academy U-16s are another team that has clinched a playoff berth after their 10-0 win over Met Oval. And by virtue of their wins last weekend against Virginia clubs McLean Youth Soccer and Richmond Strikers, the Atlantic Division’s Charlotte Soccer Academy’s U-16s punched their ticket to the postseason. CASL Chelsea FC Academy’s U-16s also clinched a playoff berth last weekend, as well as the Southeast Division’s South Carolina United Battery U-16s, who lead the division by six points over Weston.

Out west, the LA Galaxy sweep of their weekend matches against Nomads SC means both of its academy teams clinched the SoCal Division title in the process.

Note: This week’s U.S. Soccer player of the week is Kendall SC U-18 midfielder Ethan Sonis.
