Development Academy: Red Bulls sweep FC Westchester in only academy games of weekend
By Jimmy LaRoue
The New York Red Bulls swept FC Westchester in a pair of 2-0 games, with the rest of the Development Academy teams off for the weekend following the previous week’s Winter Showcase.
The U-18 Red Bulls got goals in each half from Jhon Estama and Amando Moreno in their win and still are without a loss (9-0-3) and are six points ahead of second place New England Revolution, while FC Westchester falls to 1-7-5. Estama’s goal was his second of the year, while Moreno now has three.
In the U-16 matchup, Harrison Steadman scored both Red Bulls’ goals a minute apart in the second half to hand them the win. The Red Bulls’ points-per-game average leave them in first place at 9-1-2 and 2.42 ppg, a hairs-breath ahead of Albertson SC (10-2-1, 2.38 ppg) and Oakwood Soccer Club (8-1-2, 2.36 ppg).
Academy teams will play for the final time this weekend, with 26 clubs in action. The only Atlantic Division clubs in action will be Virginia Rush, who are hosting NJSA 04, along with McLean Youth Soccer and Richmond Kickers, who are playing each other. Those games are on Saturday. The Kickers also host NJSA o4 on Sunday.
