Cornell men’s soccer team finalizes 2025 signing class, featuring seven recruits

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Cornell men’s soccer team has announced the addition of seven athletes to the program as apart of its 2025 recruiting class.

“We are excited to officially announce the addition of seven new players to our 2025 recruiting class. As a staff we are confident this group will not only elevate the team’s play on the field but also represent the program with character and pride off it,” John Smith, the Dr. Daniel P. Wood Head Coach of Men’s Soccer stated.

“This class brings a unique combination of power, pace, creativity, and versatility. I am proud of the work our staff put in to identify players who fit our style, our culture, and our ambitions as a program. Each of these young men brings something special to our team. We are very excited to get this group into our environment. They have all proven themselves at a high level and are eager to contribute. We believe they will be fantastic additions to our culture and competitive goals.”, Smith added.

Below are the incoming Cornellians and comments from John Smith, the Dr. Daniel P. Wood Head Coach of Men’s Soccer:

Caden Bredeman – Midfielder

A product of PA Classics under Steve Klein, Caden brings size, strength, speed, and toughness. His ability to play multiple positions and his quickness on both sides of the ball will allow him to thrive in our high-tempo system. He continues the strong tradition of PA Classics players succeeding at the college level.

Blake Donahue – Forward

Blake is a pacy, powerful attacker (from Met Oval’s MLS NEXT program) who can operate up top or on either wing. His eye for goal, willingness to shoot, and fearless competitiveness make him a real threat in the final third. His instinct to get into dangerous spaces aligns well with our attacking principles.

Cooper Flanary – Forward

The captain of the Columbus Crew MLS Academy, Cooper is a reliable goal scorer and strong target forward. He excels at occupying defenders and converting chances, especially from wide service. His leadership and consistency make him an incredibly valuable addition to our attacking unit.

Calvin Momanyi – Forward

Calvin is a dynamic winger (from FC Dallas Academy) with the potential to play centrally as well. With excellent balance, pace, and strength on the ball, he creates separation and isn’t afraid to take risks in possession. His ability to score and create adds another layer to our offensive depth.

Matt Sobreiro – Midfielder

A creative midfielder from PDA, Matt brings bravery and vision in possession. His ability to unlock defenses and deliver quality final balls makes him a key playmaker. As a proven provider, his presence will complement our aggressive forward runs and attacking structure.

Kasper Wollstein – Forward

Hailing from Berlin, Germany, Kasper is a big, fast striker with the versatility to play wide. He is a true in-behind threat and brings excellent footwork and dribbling ability for a player of his size. His pace and pressing instincts will support our team-first defensive approach from the front.

Sergio Zapata – Forward

Sergio is a technically-gifted striker (From Orlando City SC’s Academy) known for his agility and intelligent movement in the box. He links play well with midfielders and wingers and poses a constant threat with his well-timed runs. His cleverness around goal gives him the ability to finish in a variety of ways.
