Brentwood Freedom repeat as State Open Cup Champions, taking the Girls-Under-15 Crown
(Via Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association) – The Brentwood Freedom of the Long Island Junior Soccer League (LIJSL) won their second consecutive State Open Cup title with a 2-0 win over the Alleycats Redcats of the Capital District Youth Soccer League (CDYSL). The Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA) Girls-Under-15 final was played on Saturday, May 31 at Stringham Park in LaGrange.
“We scored in the first 30 seconds of the second half which made the difference,” explained Brentwood coach Chris Roche. “It was a total team effort.”
Kiera Metzger scored that goal off an assist by Bri Donato and Nicole Chimenti added an insurance goal when she buried a 25-yard direct kick. Brentwood’s Keley Johnson had the shutout in goal.
Brentwood received a $2,000 check from Eastern New York to defer the costs of playing in the Regionals from June 26 to July 1 in Kingston, Rhode Island.
The Alleycats received the Howard Rubenstein Sportsmanship Award as selected by the match officials. Now retired, the remarkable namesake of this award was seemingly involved in every facet of New York soccer for decades and is a member of the Halls of Fame of Eastern New York, the US Amateur Soccer Association and the LIJSL.
