Annandale Premier Cup kicks off across NoVa this weekend

The Annandale Boys and Girls Club hosts the Boys Weekend of its annual Annandale Premier Cup this weekend, bringing a number of teams ranging from Under-10 to Under-19 age level to Northern Virginia for three days of high-level action.

Smaller than its competitors but fiercely proud of its quality of play, this weekend of the Annandale Premier Cup features 27 divisions across eight age groups, plus an “Adidas Showcase bracket” classified as Men’s Open. ABGC also holds a Girls’ Weekend event in December.

All matches are scheduled to be played on artificial turf surfaces at a long list of area parks and schools.

The majority of the event’s participants hail from out of state, with most representing Regions I, II and III, including several top regional contenders – though the field also includes teams from Colorado and other distant locales. The host club, which turned heads with a strong collective performance in last year’s Virginia State Cup, will look to make the most of home-field advantage with several entries in competitive brackets.

Dozens of college coaches from across the country will be in attendance, and ABGC is also staging a referee academy for experienced center refs in cooperation with the Virginia State Referee Committee over the weekend.
