(Via VSA) – Virginia Soccer Association (VSA) has announced a new club structure, as well as the in-house promotions of Alex Herrera and Steve Hoover.

The new structure will provide more oversight to help with the continued growth and development of the VSA travel and recreation programs. The new structure will create a holistic approach that will connect all levels and programs within the club.

“We have spent a lot of time analyzing our current structure and how we can best serve our members and more importantly the players. We want to provide the players with the best possible development environment and in order to do this we need to have more oversight to create a real connection between age groups and levels to truly implement the club’s player development plan” Matt Lacey, Executive Director

Within the new structure, Herrera will become the club’s Assistant Director of Coaching (Girls) where he will be responsible for the day to day technical operations of the Girls U9-U14 program. He will help develop a greater connection between the Jr Academy and Pre-Academy levels and teams. The clubs new Assistant Director of Coaching (Boys) will be announced later this week.

“This is a great step for Alex. He is fully deserving of this opportunity and we are excited for him to play a bigger role in the development of the club’s players. He has positioned himself as one of the most promising and talented coaches in the area and now we are excited for him to grow as a leader” –Matt Lacey, Executive Director

Hoover will become the club’s U11-U19 Director of Player Development overseeing the implementation of the Premier program (TBA) along with creating a real connection between travel and recreation curriculum implementation. He will also continue to serve in his role as the club’s recreation Director.

“The growth that Steve has shown as a leader within the club has been tremendous. He has really taken on board the club values and has worked extremely hard to continue to improve. He truly deserves this promotion but more importantly it is a step forward for VSA and the newly formed Premier Program (will be announced this week)”

Here is what Herrera and Hoover had to say about their new roles:

“I am excited to step into the Director of Player Development with VSA. I have enjoyed my time with VSA since joining the staff in 2016 and look forward to working with our players in all age groups, creating a player pathway that allows for promotion within VSA at all levels.” – Steve Hoover

“I appreciate all the club has given me in my short coaching career and I am excited to be able to impact more of our players and hopefully grow their love for the game. I will do all I can in my position to push our club and our players to the next level!” – Alex Herrera
