Soccer goal safety bill passes Va. Senate, in House committee

Updating something I posted a week ago about legislation in the Virginia legislature that would require organizations that own or control moveable soccer goals to be properly anchored, it passed the state Senate Tuesday, Jan. 22 by a 33-6 vote after being voted favorably out of the Senate’s Education and Health Committee by a 12-2 vote Jan. 17.
The legislation has now moved to the House of Delegates and has been referred today (Friday, Jan. 25) to the Health, Welfare and Institutions Committee.
The genesis for the legislation came after a Frederick County, Va. boy died after a soccer goal fell on him.
The bill is sponsored by Sen. Jill Holtzman Vogel (R-Fauquier). It would also halt the sale of non-tip resistant soccer goals beginning in July 2014. This is what the Consumer Product Safety Commission said about soccer goal safety back in 1995. Clearly
