Navy women’s coach Carin Gabarra wins 300th career match

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (Via Naval Academy) – Navy head women’s soccer h coach Carin Gabarra earned her 300th career win when Navy defeated Hampton, 10-0, on Tuesday at the Glenn Warner Soccer Facility. Gabarra, in her 24th season as a head coach and 23rd at Navy, has amassed an overall record of 300-138-43.
“I am very lucky to be able to be in a career and place that I enjoy with a program that has had so much success over the years,” Gabarra said about reaching No. 300. “I could not have reached this point without being able to have great players come through here and quality staff members by my side.”
Gabarra became the 18th active Division I head women’s soccer coach to achieve the feat. She joins Boston University’s Nancy Feldman as the only two Patriot League coaches with at least 300 wins.
Navy took care of business on the offensive end, holding advantages in shots, 37-0, shots on net, 23-0, and corner kicks, 7-0. The Mids saw eight different players record a goal with sophomore Clare MacAdam (Palmyra, N.J.) and freshman Ash Fairow (Jacksonville, N.C.) each finding the back of the net twice. Junior Rachel Feldman (Danville, Calif.) and sophomore Meghan Hegarty (Richmond, Va.) each recorded three assists.
Navy jumped out to an early 2-0 lead from the foot of MacAdam. The sophomore forward received a through-ball from junior Courtney Hook (Midlothian, Va.) to the top of the box, where she finished the play to the near post. MacAdam and Hegarty then executed a give-and-go atop the 18-yard box for MacAdam to score her Patriot League-leading 11th goal of the season.
The Mids continued its offensive pressure, recording the next five goals in a span of 4:55 minutes to push their lead to seven, 7-0. Fairow led the charge with two goals during the stretch. She tallied her first goal atop the box to the far post in the 20th minute and then dispossessed a Hampton defender for a breakaway goal in the 24th minute.
Navy’s Hook and sophomore Madeline Ostrowski (Annapolis, Md.) each found the back of the net within three minutes of each other to extend the lead to nine, 9-0, as the first half was ending. Feldman finished the contest with her lone score in the 73rd minute to cap off the 10-0 victory.
Junior goalkeeper Chelsea Pixa (Alexandria, Va.) earned her first career win in net, playing 34 minutes and not seeing a shot on net. Teammates Taygan Grundy and MaryKate Helms each saw minutes in net for the Mids to earn the combine shutout with Pixa.
Navy will host Boston University in the regular-season finale on Saturday at the Glenn Warner Soccer Facility at 5 p.m. The match features Senior Day as it recognizes Lexi Ricketts, Lizzy Rullan and Courtney Mason for their careers at the Academy.
