LaBonta’s goal lifts No. 7 Stanford women’s soccer to 1-0 win over Washington

SEATTLE – Lo’eau LaBonta scored in the 44th minute to lift No. 7 Stanford to a 1-0 Pac-12 Conference women’s soccer victory at Washington on Thursday night.

Stanford (13-3-1 overall) won its fourth straight to counter a recent three-match losing streak. The Cardinal keeps its Pac-12 title hopes alive. Second-place Stanford (6-3, 18 points in Pac-12) trails UCLA (6-0-2, 20 points) and would need to win its final two matches and require at least a UCLA loss and a draw in its final three to earn a share of the crown.

LaBonta’s goal was her fourth of the season. The sequence began when Taylor Uhl played a ball from the right. A defender got a touch on it, but it settled at the feet of Ryan Walker-Hartshorn, who played it back to LaBonta for the first-time straightaway shot from 12 yards.

Freshman goalkeeper Jane Campbell earned her fourth shutout as Stanford won its ninth straight in the series against Washington (7-7-4, 3-2-4).

Stanford resumes play Sunday at Washington State at 11 a.m. before completing the regular season Wednesday against visiting California. Both matches will be televised by the Pac-12 Networks.
