SoccerWire is publishing Q&A articles with players who have Featured Profiles in the SoccerWire Recruiting Directory. The series allows players to share their stories on the college recruiting process, playing the game at the international level, travel and high school soccer, and their passion for the beautiful game.

In this edition we will showcase Alyssa Morgan, who plays for Team Boca in the ECNL, and has verbally committed to play NCAA Division I soccer for Pittsburgh in 2027.

What made you decide to verbally commit to Pitt?

I decided to verbally commit to Pitt because of the family atmosphere and the immediate connection I felt towards the staff and how they run their program. I could truly see myself succeeding and growing as a player there. I also loved the city of Pittsburgh and the atmosphere, as well as the energy that the team brings to the facilities and the home games. Coach Ben and Coach Randy have proven success not only at the collegiate level, but also in the NWSL and the international stage. I feel completely confident they will be supportive in helping me reach all of my professional goals.

What was the recruiting process like and what did you learn about yourself while going through it?

My recruiting process was different than most because not only did I take months to make my initial decision, but I also had to experience it twice after decommitting from my previous school. Throughout that time, I learned how persistent you need to be throughout the process and to never give up on yourself or your abilities. If you continue to grind and grow as a player, the exposure will come, and you will end up where you are supposed to be.

How do you feel your strengths on the field will help the Panthers?

I feel as though my strengths such as my persistent aggression off my line, efficient distribution and consistent communication will help the Panthers, especially in the most fast-paced conference, the ACC. I can help to control the field while contributing to switch the point of attack, and proving to my teammates that they always can count on me under pressure.

What are your favorite subjects in school and what do you think you would like to study in college?

My favorite subject in school has always been History, specifically U.S. History. However, I will be majoring in Business at Pitt, and getting my certification in Sports Management.

What has your experience been like playing in the ECNL for Florida West FC and Team Boca?

Though my time at Florida West was only 1 year, I had a year of immense growth on and off the field honing in and perfecting my strengths. With it being my first year in ECNL, I was able to fix some minor weaknesses extremely quickly by learning to adapt to the rhythm of play. I am extremely grateful for that team, but I am also beyond excited to join Team Boca for their inaugural season in the ECNL for my senior year.

What are your favorite pair of cleats that you have ever owned?

My favorite pair of cleats I ever owned are my Pink Nike Phantom Luna 2’s that I wore in my previous season and will continue to wear into my senior season.

If you could give one piece of advice to a younger player that wants to play at a high level, what would it be?

My best piece of advice is to never get discouraged throughout the long journey and focus on yourself. Every athlete is on a different timeline and if you continue to work hard, improve your complete skill set, and challenge yourself beyond what you feel capable of, your opportunity will come. Also, never be afraid to reach out to coaches multiple times to keep yourself at the top of their inbox; they like to see consistency in their program specifically. Lastly, play every game like it’s your last, be grateful for the opportunity to play the sport that you love because you never know when it’s going to end.

Is there anyone that you would like to give a shoutout to who has helped you both on and off of the field?

I would like to give a special shoutout to my goalkeeper trainer Giuseppe Weller. I have worked with him since the 7th grade and he has always pushed me not only in training to be the best player I can be, but also helping my mindset and helping me stay confident throughout my recruiting process. He has stood by me for 5 years now and I owe all of my growth and development to him.
