Harvard men’s soccer team welcomes six first-years to Cambridge for Class of 2030

CAMBRIDGE, MA – Harvard University Men’s Soccer will welcome six first-years to the program for the start of the 2026 season as part of the Class of 2030, Josh Shapiro, The Virginia B. and James O. Welch, Jr. ’52 Head Coach for Harvard Men’s Soccer, announced.

The highly touted class includes Tobias Barnas (Bratislava, Slovakia), Gil de Souza (New York, N.Y.), Keean Elliott (Santa Barbara, Calif.), Andreas Engle (Edina, Minn.), Jan Hejna (Montclair, N.J.) and Arnav Maskey (Madison, Ala.). The four midfielders, forward and goalkeeper round out a class that has received recognition from around the league, region, state and nation.

The group joins a Crimson side that has finished in the top half of the Ivy League standings in each of the last four seasons.

Tobias Barnas

Midfielder | 6-foot-1 | Malinovo, Bratislava, Slovakia | Prague British International School

Before Harvard:

  • Competed with Sk Slovan Bratislava and Fk Dukla Prague clubs
  • Captured the U15 Slovak League Championship with Sk Slovan Bratislava
  • Slovak Youth National Team Player of the Year U15&U16 while playing against national teams from Wales, Belgium, Israel, Montenegro and more
  • Captained Bratislava regional team for three years (U15-U17)
  • Was the youngest Slovak national to feature in an UEFA Youth League game; played against Atletico Madrid and Inter Milan at the age of 15.

Gil de Souza

Midfielder | 6-foot-0 | New York, N.Y. | Packer Collegiate Institute

Before Harvard:

  • Member of New York Red Bulls Academy U15-U18 squads
  • Competed on the New York City FC Academy U18 team
  • Member of the 2023 MLS Next Team of the Year
  • Won the U15 MLS Next Cup Championship with the Red Bulls Academy

Keean Elliott

Midfielder | 6-foot-1 | Santa Barbara, Calif. | Santa Barbara Senior High

Before Harvard:

  • Competed on the club circuit with Santa Barbara Soccer Club and the TSV 1860 Munich Academy
  • Lined up in the central attacking midfield for all his club teams
  • MLS Next All-Star Game selection in 2025
  • Led Santa Barbara Soccer Club team in assists for four consecutive seasons.

Andreas Engle

Forward/Midfielder | 6-foot-2 | Edina, Minn. | Edina High School

Before Harvard:

  • A 2025 High School All-America Selection
  • Named to All-State, All-Region, All-Conference, All-Section, All-Metro and All-State Tournament teams in 2025
  • Minnesota Gatorade Player of the Year Nominee and Minnesota 3A Mr. Soccer Finalist
  • Helped guide Edina to a Class 3A State Championship as a senior

Jan Hejna

Goalkeeper | 6-foot-8 | Montclair, N.J. | Montclair Kimberley Academy

Before Harvard:

  • Competed with TSF Academy and STA Soccer on the club circuit
  • Named a United Soccer Coaches All American in 2025
  • Awarded spots on the First Team All-State and First Team All-County as a senior
  • Helped guide MKA to a New Jersey State Championship in 2025

Arnav Maskey

Midfielder | 6-foot-0 | Madison, Alabama | Bob Jones High School

Before Harvard:

  • Competed with the United Soccer Club, Nashville SC MLS Academy and Alabama FC on the Club circuit
  • Named an Alabama High School Athletic Association All Star and First Team All-State in 2025
  • Awarded spots on the Huntsville All-Metro First Team in 2024, 2025 and 2026
  • Captained The Bob Jones team to its first-ever State Championship appearance in 2026
