Cascadia youth weekend wrap: B.C. Coastal Cup semifinalists set

By Liviu Bird

Two weekends remain in the B.C. Coastal Cup, with the final four teams in each age group set. The semifinal stage is next weekend, with the finals held in Richmond on May 4 and 5.

The full schedule is here for both A and B brackets of the Cup. Highlights include:

• The first goal has been vital in the girls’ under-13 Cup, as all but one match has ended in a shutout. Four teams that have not conceded a goal over two rounds of play face off this weekend, with RIC All-Star Selects coming up against DSG 00 and UVI Harbour City FC playing Port Moody SC.

• In the oldest age group, the under-18s, the Burnaby Royals and Vancouver FC face off in one boys’ semifinal, while Richmond United and North Coquitlam United play on the opposite side of the bracket. Burnaby is the No. 1 seed and received a bye in the first round before winning 3-0 over West Coast FC Selects, while North Coquitlam defeated Coquitlam Metro-Ford 6-0 in its quarterfinal.

The girls’ side features No. 1 seed Port Moody Storm, which defeated the Richmond Predators 6-0 in the quarterfinal. Port Moody faces the Fraser Valley Selects in one semifinal. Coquitlam Metro-Ford plays DSG 96 in the other semi.

• In the under-16 girls’ tournament, Fraser Valley Selects and UVI Storm are in opposite semifinals after the two most dominant results in the quarterfinals. DSG 97 faces Fraser Valley after also dominating in its quarterfinal, 3-0 over North Shore Renegades. CCB Elite faces UVI.
