ECNL regular season winds down for local teams
By Jimmy LaRoue
Local teams had mixed results this weekend in the Elite Clubs National League, with Freestate Soccer Alliance’s Under-16 and U-14 teams winning, while Bethesda SC’s U-16 and U-15 teams fell to PDA and Bethesda’s U-14 team tied PDA 0-0.
Freestate’s U-16s dominated Penn Fusion SA in a 7-0 win, while Freestate’s U-14s shut out the Richmond Strikers 3-0. Freestate’s U-16s still have a chance at the postseason, as they still sit in 17th place in the National A-Flight standings with just two games remaining against A-Flight teams at the PDA Showcase in Zaraphath, N.J. this weekend, against Sereno SC and West Coast FC. Sereno currently sits in 15th, while West Coast is 14th.
The regular season is over for the area’s U-14 ECNL teams, and though all U-14 teams will be in Chicago for the ECNL’s last event of the season, FC Virginia will be in the national championship group and will have a chance to play for a national title.
