WAGS season resumes after holiday break

Washington Area Girls Soccer League play resumed this past weekend as the early part of the season continues.

Under-12

The U-12 Division 1 Bethesda Academy Blue continued its perfect start to the season, moving to 4-0-0 with a 3-1 win Sunday against VYS Patriots Black, who fall to 0-1-2 with the loss. Four teams remain unbeaten and untied in Division 2, with Lee Mount Vernon SC Patriots Red leading the way at 3-0-0. In Division 3, SYA Synergy Red scored an opening 5-0 win over VYS Patriots Red. Bethesda Academy Green, meanwhile, picked up two wins over the weekend against SAC United 1 and FC Frederick Academy 99 to go to 3-0-0, with all three wins coming via shutout. Hagerstown SC Freedom moved to 3-0-1 on the season with two shutout wins, 1-0 over FSC Xplosion Saturday and 5-0 Sunday over ODFC Sting in Division 5B play.

U-13

In Division 1, ASA Azzuri and VYS Thunder Black scored shutout wins to open the WAGS season. In Division 2, Bays Blues, McLean Spirit Green and VYS Thunder Gold all picked up shutout wins.

U-14

In Division 1, WWSC Grey Wolves opened its season with a 3-0 win over ASC Wolves. Herndon Wanderers, Alliance SC Rage and SSA Blink Magic were all winners in Division 2.

U-15

McLean Premier Soccer 96 Force Green picked up its first win of the season, 3-1 over SAC United Kickers. TSC Thunder Extreme (2-0-1) tied 0-0 with Stafford Revolution 96 Blue (0-1-1) in U-15 Division 2, while in U-15 Division 3, Herndon Heat (2-0-0) continued its strong start to the season with a 4-0 win over Crofton Lightning. Alexandria Thunder, meanwhile, scored a 2-0 opening win against ABGC 96 Mustangs in Division 4. In Division 5, Stafford Revolution 96 White (2-0-0) picked up its second win of the season, defeating Loudoun 96G White 1-0. Sterling Sting and VYS Storm are also 2-0-0 after wins over the weekend.

U-16

Division 4 teams FSC Inferno and SYC Storm are 2-0-0 after wins over the weekend. SYC Storm played and won both Saturday and Sunday. And in Division 5, EPIC Velocity and CSA Blaze are off to 2-0-0 starts after wins over the weekend, CSA Blaze also picking up two wins this past weekend.

U-17

Division 4 opened its season over the weekend, as CSC Explosion picked up a 1-0 win over SSA Moxie. In Division 5, CSA Shock rebounded from an opening loss to defeat Maryland Rush Swoosh 94 3-0 on Saturday.

U-19

In High School Division 1, Bethesda SC Threat and Bethesda Storm won twice over the weekend, while Division 2’s PWSI Courage 93 Red were 3-0 winners over SSA Eagles to go 2-0-0 on the season. SAC United Premier went to 2-0-0 also with a win over the weekend in High School Division 3. Division 4’s FC Frederick 93 picked up its third straight shutout win to start the season, beating ABGC Fury 3-0 Saturday and Lee Mount Vernon SC Patriots 2-0 Sunday. GSC Elite (2-0-0) also stayed unbeaten and unscored-upon with a 4-0 win over BAC Inferno.
