Va. State Cup: Richmond Kickers Elite, Beach FC teams advance

All four Richmond Kickers Elite girls’ teams in Virginia State Cup play this weekend found home to their liking this weekend, as all four picked up wins Saturday and advanced.

Playing at Ukrop Park, the Kickers Elite U-15 Girls started the day with a 6-0 win over FC Richmond Mystx 97, while the Kickers Elite U-18 Girls handily defeated FC Richmond Mystx 94 8-1. In the closest match of the day for the Kickers Elite, its U-16s defeated SYA FCV United 96 2-0, while the Kickers Elite’s U-17 Girls shutout SOCA Storm of Charlottesville 7-0.

Two other SOCA Storm teams fared better this weekend, as its U-18s defeated McLean Power Green 94 3-0, while the U-16s held off Reston Real Force 4-2.

However, SOCA Lightning U-15 Boys fell 3-0 to top seeded FC Richmond Magic 97 3-0.

Beach FC teams fared well over the weekend, as five of seven teams won. Of the two losses, Beach FC 97B Red lost 2-1 to ASA Impact Red in PKs in U-15 Boys, while SYA FCV Heat defeated Beach FC 95G Red 1-0 in U-17 Girls cup play.

Beach FC teams took wins in U-16 Boys (the top-seeded Beach FC side won 3-1 over Reston Internationals Blue), U-17 Boys (2-1 over Alexandria Dynamo Elite), U-15 Girls (6-1 over FASA Elite Impact 97), U-16 Girls (2-0 over Loudoun 96G Red), and U-18 Girls (4-2 over FASA Elite Unity 94).

Loudoun SC also had a successful State Cup weekend, as its U-15 and U-17 Boys and Girls teams scored wins at Ida Lee. The U-17 Boys are the top seed in the State Cup.

VSA had a tough weekend, as its top-seeded U-16 Girls VSA Heat 96G squad fell 1-0 to McLean 96 Force Green. VSA Gold also lost in U-16 Girls, 3-1 to ASA Athletica Red and VSA Heat Blue 97G fell 3-0 to top seeded Herndon Freedom 97G in U-15 Girls.

Four of Arlington Soccer Association’s six teams playing in the State Cup this weekend advanced, including ASA Impact Red (U-15 Boys), ASA Athletica Red (U-16 Girls), ASA Strikers Red (U-16 Boys) and ASA Athletica Red (U-16 Girls).

The top-seeded VSA Heat Blue’s U-18 Girls, however, soundly defeated ASA Explosion White 8-1.

In U-17 Girls, top seeded BRYC 95 Elite defeated Herndon Comets White 6-0.

Of the State Cup games over the weekend, 25 percent of them (14 of 55 games) ended with margins of five or more goals.

The Virginia State Cup will take the Columbus Day weekend off before resuming play.
