USMNT wins Group D, will face Bosnia and Herzegovina in World Cup Round of 32
After topping Group D, the U.S. Men’s National Team will continue its FIFA World Cup 2026 journey in Santa Clara, Calif. against UEFA opponent Bosnia and Herzegovina in the Round of 32. The Stars and Stripes’ first knockout stage contest of this year’s tournament will take place at the San Francisco Bay Area Stadium on July 1 at 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT.
The USMNT constructed a 2W-1L-0D group stage record thanks to victories against Paraguay and Australia. The Stars and Stripes concluded the group stage with a narrow 3-2 loss against Türkiye in which a USMNT-record nine changes were made to the starting lineup from the Australia match.
The USMNT will face Bosnia and Herzegovina for the fourth time—the first in official competition. In the pair’s first meeting in 2013, the USMNT overcame a 2-0 deficit in Sarajevo to win 4-3 thanks to a three-goal, one-assist performance from Jozy Altidore. In the following two meetings, the USMNT did not allow the Dragons to score, notching a scoreless draw and later a 1-0 win—both in Carson, Calif. in 2018.
