BALTIMORE (Via UMBC) – UMBC women’s soccer’s seniors helped the Retrievers to shine Senior Day, as goalkeeper Jen Nance (Millersville, Md./Severna Park) picked up her third shutout of the season and senior forward Amanda Dailey (Freehold, N.J./Freehold Township) scored her second goal of the season en route to a 2-0 victory on Sunday afternoon against New Hampshire in America East action at Retriever Soccer Park.

UMBC junior forward Destinee Morris (La Plata, Md./La Plata) registered the game-winner in the ninth minute, while Dailey’s insurance goal came in the 68th minute. The victory helps the Retrievers (4-9-3) to improve to 2-2-2 in conference play with two games to go in the regular season, while New Hampshire drops to 6-8-3 overall and 4-3-0 in America East action.

UMBC freshman back Katie Berkowitz (Crofton, Md./South River) played in a free kick in the ninth minute and classmate Karen Aye (Columbia, Md./St. John’s College) headed the ball over a pack of UNH defenders. Morris stepped in front of her defender to gain possession and chipped a shot over the head of New Hampshire goalkeeper Mimi Borkan for the score to put UMBC out in front, 1-0.

The Wildcats held a 6-2 shot advantage in the opening half, but placed just one shot on goal for Nance to stop.

Dailey added to the Retrievers advantage in the 68th minute as sophomore midfielder Gabby Boehmer (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) headed over a pass that Dailey drilled at the net. Borkan was there to knock it down, but Dailey gathered the deflection and slotted home the rebound for her second goal of the year to put the Retrievers’ on top 2-0.

New Hampshire put the pressure on the Retrievers, accumulating 10 shots in the second stanza, but the UMBC’s defense held strong and Nance picked up five of her six saves in the half en route to victory.
