MIAMI (Via U.S. Soccer) – The U.S. Under-20 Men’s National Team took charge in their first two domestic friendly games of 2016 against SIMI Monteverde and Weston Select at Florida International University Stadium. The U.S. defeated both teams 3-0.

During the first game, it didn’t take long for the U-20’s to lead. In the 10th minute, defender Aaron Herrera played a low cross toward Alex Zendejas, who laid off the ball for Coy Craft to come in and score. This remained the only goal of the first half.

In the 54th minute, Amir Bashti passed toward Sebastian Elney, who made a quick run in the box. Elney one-touched the ball, sending it past the Montverde goalkeeper. To round out the scoring for the match, Yosef Samuel dribbled into the box and crossed to Isiah Young, who placed the ball in the back of the net in the 77th minute.

The second game proved much the same, with the U-20’s scoring in the 10th minute. Emmanuel Sabbi gained the ball after a Weston Select turnover. He beat the goalkeeper near post to grab the goal. In the 40th minute, Danny Acosta sent a perfect ball to Eryk Williamson, who took a quick shot and scored, sending the match into halftime with the USA leading by a brace.

Shortly after halftime ended, Williamson received the ball off another Weston turnover and placed the ball in the back of the net, leaving the score 3-0 for the rest of the game.

The U-20 MNT will take on Albion Plantation SC at 2 p.m. ET and Miami Fusion at 4 p.m. ET on Tuesday, Jan. 12 at FIU Stadium. The final matches will not be ticketed.
