U.S. U-20 MNT advances to Milk Cup third place match with win over Turkey
The U.S. U-20 Men’s National Team beat Turkey 1-0 in its second match of the 2012 Milk Cup to advance to the third place game.
U.S. U-20 MNT head coach Tab Ramos’ squad maintained solid possession in the first half and finally broke through in the second half with the lone goal and game winner coming from Victor Pineda.
The goal came in the 73rd minute when Daniel Cuevas went on a fast break down the left flank, dribbling hard to the corner. Cuevas sent a strong low cross into the box which Aykut Ozer tried to claim. The ball bounced out of Ozer’s hands and Pineda cleaned up with a hard shot into the center of the goal.
The U.S. U-20 MNT will now play against Chile for third place in the tournament on Thursday, July 16, while Chile is coming off a 2-1 loss to Denmark. The final will be Denmark against Mexico, and Northern Ireland and Turkey will play for fifth place.
