U.S. U-18 MNT concludes first camp of 2016 with pair of friendlies

CHICAGO (Via U.S. Soccer) – The U.S. Under-18 Men’s National Team finished up its first training camp of 2016 at the Premier Sports Complex in Lakewood Ranch, Florida, last week.

“Obviously the goal for this camp was to identify more players at this age group and to expand our player pool,” said U-18 MNT head coach Omid Namazi.

The U-18 MNT hosted two domestic friendly matches on Jan. 20 against Montverde Academy and Weston FC. On Jan. 22, the team conducted an intra-squad match to round out camp.

In the first match, the USA lost against Montverde 3-1 with defender Harold Hanson grabbing the lone goal for the USA. The second match proved much the same with the U-18 MNT unable to pull out a win against Weston FC, losing 1-0.

During the intra-squad match the 36-players camp roster divided into two teams, USA Blue and USA Red, as the scouting process continued in advance of the team’s next event on the schedule: a foreign training camp in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in early March.

“I thought these games against strong opposition gave us exactly what we were looking for.” concluded Namazi.
