Texas Tech brings in defender Abbi Sine on transfer from BYU
LUBBOCK, Texas – With the 2025 season in the books, Texas Tech Soccer and Head Coach Tom Stone have gone back out to the portal for a key addition, as this time the Red Raiders have added former BYU Cougar Abbi Sine to the program.
A native of Coppell, Sine will enroll at Tech when classes begin in January and will join the Red Raiders for their Spring season.
One of the best youth players in the State of Texas, Sine was a member of the U-15, U-16, U-17 and U-19 pools for the USWYNT and was a five-time USWYNT Camp participant.
Battling injuries throughout the early portion of her collegiate career, Sine appeared in 19 total games in two seasons at BYU logging 265 total minutes.
Sine tallied her lone assist of her career in 2025, in the Cougars 2-1 set back at UCF.
A Four-Star recruit by TopDrawerSoccer coming out of high school, Sine was the No. 12 player in the country according to PrepSoccer and was rated as the No. 21 overall player, No. 8 defender and No. 4 player in Texas by the IMG Top-150.
“If you’re going to play outside back for our team you’re going to have to play it the way we like it played,” said Stone. “We like our outside backs getting up the field, involved in the attack and having a dynamic aspect to their game. We’ve known Abbi since she was in high school. She graduated a year early to go to college, and we were disappointed we did not have a chance at her the first time. But when she went in the portal, we jumped at the chance to speak with her and see if her personality was as dynamic as her game, and it was even more so.”
“We really enjoyed getting to know her and her family during this portal time,” Stone continued. “We think she’s a great fit for us. She plays the way we play and vice-versa. She’s technical, feisty as heck and fits the West Texas way. Abbi is going to be a great addition to the squad.”
