Syracuse players Pieles and Robinson win Central NY Classic honors

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (Via Syracuse University) – Syracuse freshman Johannes Pieles is the Offensive MVP of the 2016 men’s soccer Central New York Classic, while sophomore Miles Robinson is the defensive MVP. The pair led the sixth-ranked Orange to the tournament title for the third straight year.

Pieles had an assist in Syracuse’s 3-0 win against Massachusetts in the first round. He scored his first career goal in the 22nd minute against Loyola Marymount to give the Orange an early lead. After the Lions evened the score, Pieles notched the game-winning goal in the 102nd minute on a header off a corner kick to give Syracuse the win. He leads the team with five points this season.

Robinson anchored the Orange defense that allowed just three shots, including only one on goal, against Massachusetts. The back line did not give up a shot against Loyola Marymount in overtime, setting up Pieles’ heroics in the second overtime session.

In addition, seniors Chris Nanco and Louis Cross joined Pieles and Robinson on the All-Tournament Team.

Syracuse returns to the pitch on Thursday, Sept. 1 when it hosts Colgate at 7 p.m. at the SU Soccer Stadium. Admission is free of charge.
