Rutgers University women’s soccer releases spring schedule

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Via Rutgers University)  Rutgers women’s soccer has unveiled its 2019 spring schedule, including two home matches, two away contests, and two neutral matchups.

The Scarlet Knights enter the spring following a fall season that included an overall record of 11-4-6, RU’s seventh straight season with 11 or more victories. RU posted a Big Ten record of 7-1-3, with a 4-0-1 mark at Yurcak Field, propelling the Scarlet Knights to their highest finish in the conference as the runner-up for the regular season title.

Qualifying for its fifth straight conference tournament since joining the league in 2014, Rutgers earned its highest seed to date at No. 2 and hosted a quarterfinal for the third time. The Scarlet Knights went on to earn a bid to their seventh straight NCAA Tournament, ninth in the last 11 years and 13th time overall.

The slate begins on Saturday, March 9 against NJIT at the Rutgers Bubble. Last year, NJIT posted an overall record of 11-5-2 and ASUN Conference mark of 5-2-1, finishing as regular-season runners ups in the league.

Rutgers then matches up with the NWSL club Sky Blue FC on Friday, March. 29. Former Scarlet Knights Carli Lloyd, Madison Tiernan, and newly-drafted Kenie Wright join take on Rutgers as members of the Sky Blue roster.

On Friday, April 12, the Scarlet Knights meet Drexel for a neutral site contest. The Dragons posted a record of 7-7-5 overall and a mark of 4-4-1 in CAA contests in 2018.

RU then travels to Monmouth for a match on Sunday, April 14. The Hawks posted a 16-4-1 overall record and a 9-1-0 in MAAC action, claiming their third straight MAAC Championship and advancing to their third straight NCAA Tournament.

The schedule wraps up with Columbia on Friday, April 19. The Lions are coming off a 8-1-7 season, including 4-3-0 mark in IVY League play.
